And re-heating the Old Turkey!
This week is Independent Venue Week – a UK-wide annual celebration of independent music and arts venues – and this is our 3rd year participating in it.
As an independent venue that champions the big names that we tempt to our humble corner of West Yorkshire and the up-and-coming local talent equally, we’ve always believed that the best nights out don’t come from the bland identikit spaces. They come from character, passion, and people who genuinely care about what happens on their stage and in their bar. This is what Independent Venue Week is all about and we are here for it.
Old Turkey – Saturday 31st January
As the longest month in the year draws to a close, we know that people are ready to shake off their post-Christmas hibernation and get back out there – they need Old Turkey. Not the leftover Christmas dinner kind; the annual high voltage shindig laid on by Dewsbury Music Foundation, spoiling you with 6 local bands to banish the last of the January blues. Its name is a nod to our beautiful venue’s previous alter ego, The Old Turk, and its ethos is the same as well, as those who remember it will know it was famed for its band nights.
Old Turkey is our IVW event and it’s going to be amazing so please show your support by coming along and seeing the diverse talent that we have here in Dewsbury and the surrounding areas.

Support your independent venues
Running an independent venue isn’t always easy. Rising costs, changing habits, and increasing pressure on small businesses mean that spaces like ours rely more than ever on local support. Independent Venue Week is a reminder that choosing where you spend your time (and your money) really does matter. Every ticket bought, every drink ordered, every gig attended helps keep venues like The Terrace alive and thriving.
This week is also about saying thank you. Thank you to the artists who trust us with their shows. Thank you to the promoters, sound engineers, bar staff and door teams who make the magic happen behind the scenes. And most of all, thank you to everyone who walks through our doors and supports independent live culture in Dewsbury.
